Good Boy lays bare the dysfunction within Insung Metro PD, where petty grudges and corruption overshadow any real effort to curb crime. This is wild, considering the gangster Golden Bunny (Kang Gil-woo) and his crew of smugglers and bat-swinging thugs are wreaking havoc. Even wilder? Many cops are too busy mocking the National Athlete Special Recruit Program to notice the grit and readiness of junior officers Yoon Dong-ju (Park), Ji Han-na (Kim), Shin Jae-hong (Tae), and Kim Jong-hyeon (Lee).
Dong-ju, a former boxer, Han-na, a sharpshooting champ, Jae-hong, a discus thrower, and Jong-hyeon, a fencing silver medalist, are sidelined despite their skills. Even Dong-ju’s senior, Ko Man-sik (Heo), a former Olympic wrestler, reminisces about his glory days. Yet, these athletic cops are overlooked for a sting against Golden Bunny, left grappling with debt, stalled careers, and doubts about their place in the force. Dong-ju, however, stays unfazed, flashing his thoughtful smile even as he pawns his gold medal for cash.
The show mixes quirky music cues and pop tracks with slapstick moments, as the clumsy cops fumble their chase of Golden Bunny’s gang. A hint of romance simmers too—Dong-ju’s long-standing crush on Han-na, his former Olympic teammate, persists despite her rejections and her recent split from Jong-hyeon.
